Pop quiz, hotshot. There's a bomb on a bus. Once the bus goes 50 miles an hour, the bomb is armed. If it drops below 50, it blows up. What do you do? What do you do?

It's too big to replace my iPod Touch, and not useful enough to replace my MacBook. Anyone else have an opinion?

Why isn't there a "very no" option?

I said yes, because I want one.

If it were free, I'd LOVE to have one, but I don't want it enough to spend my money on it.

Which should be followed by the disclaimer that there are not many things able to make me part with my meager fortune. Cheese is one of those things.

Just a yes, but not a very yes. Mainly because I can't justify spending 150 over the norm for a kindle-esque machine.

Kindle DX - 489.99
iPad - 499.99

No pinch to zoom, IM, movie playback, full html web browser, contact or calendar syncronization, or color screen on the kindle dx.

Maybe not a bad $10 to spend if you wanted a book reader and not a kindle. But what if you wanted a book reader, and a netbook? You just saved another $300-$500 there. What if you wanted to play games like on a DS, PSP or iPod touch? You saved an additional $300! It's like this thing's saving you money left and right!

Just because it has a book reader app and a bookstore doesn't mean it's a kindle. And for once, you're finally not right about the price being higher on an apple product, versus some other comparable product.

But you just pointed out how it's not a comparable product smile. Apple's stuff is always going to be more expensive. Its part of their brand: similar to Land Rover they mark up their price because their brand name allows them to do so. And that's okay.

No multitasking or flash ruin it for me. I always have an IM program (and often iTunes) open while I'm on the web, and although I depend on flashblock, sometimes I actually like to be able to view that content.

I think what he's saying is......it's NOT way over priced from the norm...because in this case, the norm is just a book reader.

And paying more simply for a brand name is never ok.

And Flash is probably coming soon. It'll be available in the next few months on Droids and other android type platforms.

Yes, it's a netbook, book reader, and iPod.

To answer the multitasking thing, I think it works the same as an iPhone. You can still do other stuff while the iPod part is playing, so listening to podcasts and whatnot is gonna still happen whilst you surf the web.

You know, I think pinching and swiping on web pages sans flash is fine by me. I don't frequent flash sites, and hopefully more and more popular devices NOT supporting flash will finally kill flash and force HTML5.

Hopefully we're not hijacking the thread too much, but along the lines of flash sucking, has anyone else seen the story that google is phasing out IE6 support over the course of this year? It made Lisa happy to read that. Nothing disappoints web designers more than cool new web technology that won't appear on ~40%+ peoples computers. I always show her how cool some new html5 or java thing is, and she's sad.

Damn you ie6
