I only got a few minutes into this, but it looks interesting for sure. I like the fact that it's open source.
I wish there was a way to download a copy of a streaming video (I'm sure that there is, maybe someone will google it for me) so I could watch the rest of this on the plane tonight... _________________ My pants don't smell like sunshine anymore. |

I was in the second round of requests.
Anyone interested in an invitation? I only have eight...it's not immediate. You are just added to the list, but you don't have to wait for it to go beta or give a "good reason" to have an account. _________________ "You know you're in a [housing] bubble when even stupid people can make money." -- Dr. Geoffrey Turnbull

Sure, I'll try it if you have any invites left. What information do you need? |

I was all out by that early afternoon. They are only passing out 8 invites per new member. They did the same with gmail when that was first released, just so that they can watch what the servers are doing at a more sane incremental rate than if they just opened the doors and said "come on in".
First review: In spite of it missing a lot of functionality at the moment, it rocks. I became more skeptical the more I thought about it prior to the invite. However, once I started using with it the value became clear. I can see this replacing Sharepoint, instant messaging systems, maybe even some social networking.
It will not replace email. Ever. Not that I think that the system is too weak (in what ever way) to handle email...it seems to be able to handle embedded audio/video, multiple people working concurrently, and gadgets just fine. It's just that as an Internet society, we are just too ingrained in email. Email is not going away any time soon...if anything, it will morph into another technology that looks the same on the outside but is completely different on the inside.
Features I found useful:
- Embeddable gadgets: just like in /ig and gmail
- Inline editing
- You can see others typing in near real-time
- Auto importing of your contacts and profile
- Wave "playback": you can see the wave as it unfolded - where edits were inserted, who said what and if/when they edited that part of the wave
- Private replies to specific people within a wave _________________ "You know you're in a [housing] bubble when even stupid people can make money." -- Dr. Geoffrey Turnbull

| I'm not terribly disappointed. I waited to ask for one just because I figured there would be people more excited about it than me. |

If you get any more invites, I know someone who wants one. What do you need, gmail address? _________________ "To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, to be late is to be left." - Mr. Bennett |

yup yup. Just PM it to me along with name, social security number, telephone number, street address, a major credit card (and expiration and CV code), and preference of chicken or beef. _________________ "You know you're in a [housing] bubble when even stupid people can make money." -- Dr. Geoffrey Turnbull

So many people can't abandon email. Not that this is any sort of real replacement: there will always be a need for email. But everyone I know is complaining that this is just like email.
Really folks, it isn't. _________________ "You know you're in a [housing] bubble when even stupid people can make money." -- Dr. Geoffrey Turnbull
