Pop quiz, hotshot. There's a bomb on a bus. Once the bus goes 50 miles an hour, the bomb is armed. If it drops below 50, it blows up. What do you do? What do you do?

I am probably late in discovering this, but there's a neat little addon for Firefox out there called Adblock Plus which, as the name implies, blocks ads. I've only had it installed as of today, so I can't attest to its long term effectiveness, but my immediate results were such that I felt the need to share as quickly as possible.

I'll post some before and after screenshots of various websites after we eat this deep fried turkey.

Some tips: When you first install, you'll be given the option to subscribe to a list of ads to block, or to build your own. I highly recommend using one of the premade "lists" and then adding to it as you go.

Happy ad-free surfing!

Flashblock is a nice plugin to go along with adblock. Blocks all flash until you click on it to run it, unless its on your whitelist.

Adblock is a good program. here here!

I just started using a little bit ago, but I'd previously used a version for safari that used to block ads in between commercial breaks on NBC, ABC, and HULU.com's, so it would just automatically go to the next segment of the show. Unfortunately, that's not the case anymore.

I just reinstalled Firefox after trying Chrome for a little while. AdBlock Plus is not as good as I remember it, or as good as it seems to work on my MacBook. I've only noticed it so far in Google Reader, but almost every article I open has an ad at the bottom on Windows, but not on OS X. Both computers have version 1.1.3. I wish all the ads came from the same domain, so I could just block it altogether.

Edit:
I'm retarded. I forgot to subscribe to a filter when I installed the add-on. It's better now.

Coincidentally, you're right from both perspectives.
