I'd never heard of this movie until I watched the first seven minutes of it on videosift. Apparently a lot of studios are doing this now, sort of the way Steven King books used to give the you the first page of his next book at the very end. This is an effective technique, because it motivated me to immediately put this at the top of my netflix queue, and I was not disappointed. (On a side note, after watching the movie, I played the theatrical trailer, and was surprised by how terrible it was. Perhaps that's why there's been so little (if any) mainstream buzz about this film: the trailer sucks.)

In moon, Sam Rockwell gives a dynamic, powerful, and often funny performance as astronaut/miner Sam Bell, who, as we learn in the first few minutes of the film, is starting to get a little stir crazy near the end of his three year solo mission on, you guessed it, the Moon. His only interactions are with himself, time delayed messages from Earth, and a robot voiced by Kevin Spacey.

Unfortunately, I can't say much more than that, because the bulk of the plot revolves around a plot twist which I'd put right up there with Sixth Sense or Fight Club, with the notable difference that this twist occurs early enough in the film that it completely, and effectively drives the remaining story. And it doesn't come all at once. Director Duncan Jones reveals things to the audience slowly, and in doses sized just right to keep you guessing, interested, and most importantly, entertained.

It's been a while since I've seen a movie which inspired me to sit down and write about it, Moon is that film.

Don't read too much... This is one of those rare and excellent movies that you'll enjoy more if you know as little as possible...

Sledge - have you seen it?

I saw moon in the theaters and thought it was a great film. Looking forward to picking it up on blu-ray, probably grab it tomorrow along with Zombieland. smile

I added Moon to the top of my list, in Netflix. Also, being that I am a zombie buff, I think I'll add Zombieland also.

What a wonderful movie Moon was! That's my kind of sci-fi, something within the realms of possibility. It was also cool how they lead you to believe he was hallucinating at first. Did I not also mention that I'm a huge Sam Rockwell fan? Thanks for the heads up, Gary.

I'm becoming more and more aware that Sam Rockwell is an amazing actor. I now want to go back and watch (and re-watch) more of his movies!

(EDIT: Bonus for the ladies! This clip contains George Clooney.)

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind is a very good, strange movie.

Watching Moon right now on my lunch break at work......I really like it so far...It's just after he crashed and something stood out for some reason.

Has anyone else noticed how freakishly long Sam's big toes are????
And his damn ugly squashed finger tips???

Or am I the only one who see stuff like that?

at the top of my list, but the blu ray is a "long wait". Probably because they're all BREAKING...anyone else hear about that? All the blu-ray discs are breaking in the mail, something about hard discs, cold weather, and sorting machines... I got a mad men disc that was actually cracked in half. A guy at work has had 8 of the last 10 or something with at least a small crack in the edge. Craziness
